Nero Reviewer's Comments

Nero, from Ahead software is a very good CD burning application. With Nero’s easy to use Smart Start option, you can select the feature that is best suited to your needs. Nero not only offers a CD burning option, but also allows you to copy non–protected DVDs. However, their customer support is the worst we've seen out of hundreds of software products we’ve reviewed.

Nero works with Windows Vista.

Feature Set:

Nero has multi–purpose features which are both easy to use and convenient to own. Not only does this software copy CDs, it also allows you to copy unprotected DVDs to both DVD and CD (making it possible to play DVDs directly from your computer hard drive if you want). Nero 8 software allows you to perform many other applications from: backing up your PC files, creating MP3, WMA, and WAV discs and other related applications are all simple operations with Nero.

Ease of Use:

Nero is simple to use. It has an excellent, intuitive startup menu. All you need to do to begin the program is click on a category and follow the accompanying steps. The process is so uncomplicated that even a novice user can easily and successfully copy CDs.

Ease of Installation:

Nero’s installation and setup are both easy and self–explanatory. We encountered no errors throughout the process.

Quality of Copy:

The quality of the copy was excellent; there was no distortion in the audio quality and no skipping in the songs. Unlike many CD copies, there is no distinction between the original disc and the copy.

Help/Documentation:

The help documentation with Nero is extensive. Every subject is broken down into individual topics that include screenshots, step–by–step instructions and an individual topic index. But the help documentation is as good as the help gets for Nero. Beyond this, you are on your own.

Nero Customer Service isn't truly a service for customers, but a pricy extra. The Tech Support Hotline will cost you $ 1.29 a minute, so before you purchase this software you ought to be confident that you won’t need any support. This per–minute charge is an odd choice for Nero—we have yet to find another company that charges this kind of fee for customer support.

When we tried to contact Nero by email—numerous times—we never received a response. We even tried contacting the corporate offices in Glendale, CA. We've received no response and we couldn't even leave a message. We have come away from our experience from Nero’s customer support the same way we began—alone.

Summary:

Overall, Nero is a great product but its poor customer support takes everything down several notches. Why settle for that when you can get the best of both worlds in other products.
